Today we acted out an important situation that happens to middle schoolers (and adults!) almost daily.
They have a friend who is on their way to making a bad choice. Said friend wants to take the long way to class, for example, because they think it is cool to be late. EVEN COOLER FRIEND says....
1. "dude, you're lazy- let's just get to class this way." (while it first appears like an insult, it might get your friend walking in the right direction)
2. "um, you don't want to run into Ms. Morrin down that other hallway" (Making a joke is OK, and your friend will respond to humor)
3. "come on, let's get there so we can hurry up and finish that project we started yesterday"
4. "you go ahead, I'm goin' the normal way- see you there." (friend will not want to walk alone AND be late- alone.)
I am so proud to have advisees who are able to think in a smart way. We all agreed it's harder to take action in the moment and that sometimes saying NO to a friend is not easy.
Coming soon... December conference preparation and high school researching!! :-)
